All of WREM's homes as well as those built under the HSH project incorporate Green concepts in the design and amenities.  The amount of Green technology applied depends on the cost and desire of the buyer.  However, minimally, the following features are always used in a home built by the WREM Literacy Group, Inc., and especially in the construction of homes built under the HSH project:

1)  Programmable Thermostats
2) Florescent Lighting
3) Low-flow Plumbing Fixtures --- high-efficiency toilets, shower heads and faucets
4) Energy Star Appliances for energy-efficiency and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
5) Low-E Double Insulated, vinyl clad windows, double hung.
6) HVAC system installed per Energy-Star standards.
7) Insulating properly to assure there are no gaps or holes for seepage as well as poly-sealing and weather stripping.

CHDO Housing offers single mothers and other type families an option to afford a safe and decent  HOME. This is a  first-time homebuyer program, giving preference to single mothers, veterans, and the homeless. This program provides a cost-effective and educated path to homeownership in underserved urban and rural communities.

Rehab Housing  is a program designed for existing homeowners  that offers them a means to live in safe and decent housing.  Under this program, a home can be exchanged for a home, if the existing home is too deteriorated to repair. Under normal circumstances, there is no charge for the swap. An example is depicted to the right.  WREM administers the rehab program for the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Also, families that have been displaced because of a disaster can be serviced under this program.  Preference is given to single mothers or guardians, veterans, seniors, persons with disabilities, and the homeless.
